North Brookfield Savings Bank Hosts Blood Drive at Palmer Branch, October 19th
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Thankfully, each and every day, generous blood donors help patients of all ages, ranging from babies to senior citizens, who find themselves in serious medical situations resulting from accidents, burns, surgeries, chronic illnesses, organ transplants or a fight against cancer.
To make it more easily accessible for community members to make their vital blood donation, North Brookfield Savings Bank is hosting a Blood Drive at the Bank’s Palmer Branch on Saturday, October 19th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The blood drive will supply much-needed blood to Baystate Medical Center of Springfield, the only Level 1 Trauma Center Western Massachusetts, along with all Baystate Health hospitals.
“Blood donation is so important, even lifesaving, for so many people,” said Senior Vice President of Retail Banking Patty Ostrout. “If you are willing and able to donate blood, this is a perfect opportunity to quite literally save someone’s life. We welcome you to visit us at the Palmer Branch location to make your donation.”
The Blood Drive will be conducted inside the Baystate Health state-of-the-art Blood Mobile:

Appointments are optional but can be made by contacting the North Brookfield Savings Bank Palmer Branch location or by calling 413-283-4008.
Each eligible donor at the blood drives will receive a thank you gift from North Brookfield Savings Bank, while supplies last, and a FREE Big Y Gift Card or Six Flags ticket, provided by Baystate Health while supplies last. To participate, donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in general good health. All donors must bring a valid photo I.D. (Driver’s license or school I.D. is accepted).

More than 1.6 million new people are diagnosed with cancer each year, with many of them needing blood, sometimes daily, during chemotherapy treatments. Sickle Cell Disease affects more than 70,000 people in the United States which could require blood cell transfusions every few weeks to live pain free. For a victim experiencing trauma from a car accident, they could require as many as 100 pints of blood. Blood cannot be substituted and your advance donation is vital.
